We Love Our Community!

We make it our priority to give back whenever possible.  Since our owners’ parents were teachers, as is his wife, his involvement with the area schools and team sports should be no surprise.  However, he carries his involvement much further.

Davison Home Bakery has sponsored many area athletic teams, school events, and non-profit organization since 2008.  Tom feels that sponsorship is a great way to get involved in the community and show the residents of our area that we are all in this life together.  It is evident that sponsorship is important as we see framed team pictures and thank you letters on the walls of the bakery.

Seeing Stars

Every year Davison Home Bakery proudly participates in the Seeing Stars Benefit Dinner for the Flint Institute of Music.  We take loads of baked goods, including cupcakes, cookies bars and a custom designed cake to the event to help raise money for the Seeing Stars Scholarship Program.

This scholarship helps many children attend the Institute of Music for music and dance classes that would otherwise not be able to attend this training.  We enjoy staying during the dessert portion of the event to serve, meet and greet the donors each year.  It is our privilege to be part of this wonderful organization.

A Little History

Davison Home Bakery originally opened in 1947, owned and operated by Fred Fortner, longtime resident of Davison.  When he retired, the business was taken over by his son, Fred “Mac” Fortner, Jr.  Mac is a former mayor of the City of Davison.  He sold the business in July 2008 to Tom Burget.  Tom opened the bakery in August, after it had been closed for more than a year.

The residents of Davison are very glad to have “their” bakery back, with all the old favorites, made the same way Fred and Mac did them long ago.  In additional to driving, many residences of the community frequent the bakery by walking, biking, or motorized wheelchairs.  Everyone that comes in falls in love with “their” bakery.  Davison Home Bakery specializes in made-fresh- daily donuts, cookies, pies, cakes, breads and many other sweets.
